The last Friday in January 2010 already?

Okay, Unity fans, seriously, where is the time going?  tick, tock, tick, tock...

In honor of time passing me by so quickly, I decided to create a card using the Unity Worn Vintage Clock and sentiments from the This is the Time miniature stamp sets.  I added the butterflies to complete my message of... time flying by ...heehee.

I placed the butterflies from my Sizzix die cuts on the background c/s and I misted Gold Glimmer Mist to create a mask of the butterflies. (of course, the 'glimmer and shine' doesn't show on the photo)...oh well.  Then I placed the negative part of the butterfly die cuts back on the c/s and shaded the insides with Ranger Distress Inks.  Finally, I stamped off the grandfather clock onto a scrap piece of paper before stamping on the actual c/s (the ink was way too dark directly on the c/s).  Final touches: added a layer of vellum and stamped the time sentinment on vellum also; added some ribbon and pop dots for the face of the clock with a little twine, and this is what I ended up with:

I'm trying to finish all cards that I make with a sentiment or message inside the card:

From Blogger Pictures
Okay, this is one of those days....I looked at my blog and guess what?...my blog candy did not post earlier this week!  Hmmm...did I mess up the posting options to post?  But, guess what?...I can't find my post that I had even written!  Hmmmm....did I just delete it by accident?  Okay, I'm just gonna have to make a trip to Starbucks for my venti non-fat latte after I make this new post about my blog candy.  Yup, that's right, any excuse to go have my coffee!

My one year blogoversary was on January 25th...it's been such a fun experience meeting so many nice friends online...I can't tell you how much your comments make me smile, and I have learned something from each one of  you...I can't believe it's been one year already...my oh my, time sure does fly by fast!

So here's the scoop...
Just leave a comment on this post to answer this question:  "Have you hugged your child or a loved one today, or gave someone a compliment?"  Yea, yea, I hug my son EVERY DAY and tell him how proud I am of him...so am I the only one who does this?  Feeling sappy today....*smile*

I will draw (randomly) one winner of this blog candy...one week from today, which is Thursday, February 4th, in the evening!  So this drawing will close at 12p noon AZ time on February 4th!

Also, I can only offer this blog candy to US and CAN residents, due to postage costs...I'm truly sorry to limit this!

You & I for H{ippity} Hop

Hi H{ippity} hopsters!

I'm sharing a card that I made for two challenges:  Unity {ippity} IHHC7 which was to use black, a neutral and one other color; and the PDSS#6: sketch challenge.

I used the frame from the {ippity} Just Wanted to Say set and the words from the {ippity} Life's Little Moments set.  You can't tell too much in the photo, but I Glimmer misted the very vanilla cardstock and the Prima Flower; and used black embossing powder on the frame images...they shine IRL.

From Unity Projects
Stamps: {ippity} Just Wanted to Say, {ippity Life's Little Moments
C/S: All SU: Textured Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Urban Oasis DSP

Simply Monday

{ippity} Simply Home Monday that is!

I've been playing with metals (see yesterday's post for the class I took), so I embossed the little sheep from the {ippity} Simply Home set on an aluminum sheet from 10 Seconds Studio.  I ink distressed the c/s edges, placed 3 brads on the upper left corner, added ribbon, added the sentinment and this is it...a really simple card.  Oh, and I also used the green striped paper from the 'be loved' My Mind's Eye pack.  Due to the metal reflecting off the camera (even with no flash), this card looks better IRL:
From Unity Projects
I also created a simple layer inside with some ribbon to be able to write something in the card:

My new Journal: Metal Embossing and Book Binding all by hand...my own hands!

Oh my gosh, I joined this class at one of my LSS's on Friday and it was fabulous! I've never created my own book binding and loved how we created the metal embossed front and back covers...take a look...

The front cover was created by hand embossing on copper from a stamp image (took some time to do), and then I dipped it a few times in Liver of Sulphur chemicals (stinky stuff) to get this old distressed finish on copper. The belly band holds the book closed and has my initial:

The book binding-spine was created by stitching waxed linen thead through the signatures (parchment paper sheets folded and placed inside decorative signature wraps) and then applying ribbon through the waxed threads to the hold the pages in place:

The back cover was created by stencil embossing on copper and then torching it (yes, I was playing with fire!)! The torching on copper gives such awesome colors effects, but you have to watch that you don't torch too much, or you can make a hole through your copper:

Hope you like this...I sure loved this class, and am going to make more creations from these techniques!

H{ippity} Hop Monday!

Happy Monday to you, and what a fabulous {ippity} Monday it is!

Do you like some of your Christmas theme stamp sets that you just don't want to put away yet?

I really love the {ippity} Kissmas & Mistletoe stamp set, so I challenged myself to make a non-Christmas themed card with this set. It's kinda sorta a Valentine's card or you could just give it to someone special...the outside sentiment says "Kiss" (from the Merry Kissmas sentiment stamp), and the inside message says "Me" (from the Merry Kissmas stamp)...as in "kiss....me"! I stamped the mistletoe flowers upright and then I made some Flower Soft flowers and placed them on top of the stamped image, and tied them with a bow!

I wanted to keep this card CAS, so I embossed a square frame with my Scor-Pal and sprayed the front of the card with Iridescent Pearl Maya Mist. That's it...let me know what you think:

Here's the inside of the card:

My final Wilton Course 3 Cake!

My final cake class was completed last Monday night. This class was a lot of tedious work with fondant and creating the Wilton roses, learning new flower techniques and tiered cakes...great class!

Truth be told, with all the baking for the holidays, baking cakes for my 4 week class, and baking a spice cake for my son's birthday last Sunday, I now need a break from baking (and all the sugar)!

Here's a photo of my tiered fondant cake that I had to make for class:

And here's a close-up of some of my fondant roses:

Thanks for being sweet and stopping by!

FWFF...New Year to celebrate Unity!!!

Happy '2010' everyone!

I'm sharing a gift card holder that I made with my December KOM ' delightful moments'. My son and his friends are all teenagers turning 14, so I needed a gift card holder that is simple and could hold an iTunes gift card (at 14 years old, they all want iTunes gift cards, or $$$$'s!).

Not sure if you can tell by the photo's, but I sprayed Iridescent Pearl Maya Mist on the Tempting Turquoise cardstock, then stamped my Unity music background stamp all over it. I put a couple of scalloped edges and made a belly band of organdy ribbon and twine for a closure. I embossed the Unity boom box in black detail embossing powder, used Tim Holtz distress inks in weathered wood and broken china, along with Smooch (almost the same color as tempting turquoise), and tied it to the organdy ribbon with twine:

This next picture is the inside when you take off the belly band and lift the flap up (used black detail embossing powder for the sentiment):

And this is the inside holding the iTunes gift card (got carried away with the ribbon):

Have a fabulous Friday and go shop at Unity!  *smile*
